A Buffalo teenager has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in last year’s violent killing of a 13-year-old over a stolen cell phone.
The boy pleaded guilty Friday in Erie County Court to second-degree murder in the slaying of Ameer Al-Shammari in May 2014.
In court, the suspect had also faced charges of criminal sexual act, however all other charges were dropped in accordance with a guilty plea in adult court, WIVB reported. “I think what you see in the court room is he’s spent. he’s not showing his emotion in the courtroom, but I can tell you he’s showing his emotion elsewhere”, Dell said. “That is a positive result”, said Michael Flaherty, first assistant district attorney for Erie County.
“We are gratified that neither family has to endure a trial”.
Although his defense waived the right to appeal the guilty plea and sentence, they retained the right to appeal the court’s decision to try the 14-year-old as an adult, suggesting they may challenge the constitutionality of charging him with adult-level crimes.

But when Al-Shammari arrived, Sanchez knocked him down, tied him up with his own shoelaces, sodomized him and strangled him with the string from his victim’s hooded sweatshirt. “They will not have to sit and listen to extraordinarily graphic testimony in this case”.
