Caps get Sochi shootout star Oshie from Blues for Brouwer | News Tribune

Oshie, text messages from his friends certainly did.

Kelly Manno found her, and conducted this brief experiment in burgeoning fandom, as Manno discovered our young Oshie fan cannot accept the idea of rooting for him when the Capitals play the Blues … which is a level of dedication we’d expect from, say, a six year old.

Now, they are together again in Washington.

“I’m excited to have that NoDak brotherhood transfer to Washington”, Oshie said.

Oshie said he’s also excited to be reunited with ex- North Dakota teammate Taylor Chorney, whom the Caps signed on Wednesday to help bolster their defense.

“I thought something would possibly happen at the draft”, Oshie said on a conference call with reporters.

Following that first round playoff loss to the Wild, Yahoo Sports notes Blues general manager Doug Armstrong threatened to shake up the core of the team and that Oshie could be the man on the move.

The Washington Capitals have acquired winger T.J. “My initial reaction was a little bit of shock, even though I knew it was a possibility”. I’m excited that he finally gets a promotion because he wasn’t growing on the fourth line.

Oshie was long rumored to be potential trade bait should the Blues look to go in a different direction.

Still, if it ends here for St. Louis, things should be OK.

Last season for the Blues, Oshie scored 19 goals, producing 36 assists, with a plus/minus rating of plus 17.

“Honestly, the Blues fans took me in right from the get-go”, Oshie said.

Oshie’s voice could not hide his excitement about the opportunity he’ll have in Washington to play alongside superstars such as Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Backstrom led the National Hockey League in assists with 60. “I’ve always played with very good players, players that have played in the Olympics, but never players that put up numbers like those two guys have”. To get out there with them would be awesome. I’d feel like a kid in a candy store playing with that kind of player.

The 40-year-old St. Louis was uncertain whether he would return for another season after the Rangers were eliminated, but it was clear that New York was not going to bring the hard-working 5-foot-8 veteran back.

Brouwer, who has just one year remaining on his deal, tallied 21 goals and 22 assists for a Capitals team that returned to the playoffs after missing out in the 2013-14 season. He is expected to be in the third defense pairing next season with Petteri Lindbohm. He has three 20-goal seasons on his resume, plus hit 17, 18 and 19 in other years.
