Vernon police say a high school was locked down briefly after staff reported a student with a pocket knife inside a classroom.

The school was put in lockdown while Vernon Police responded.

Bush said Petitjean did not have any weapons on him when officers stopped him.

Later, upon searching the area near the student’s bicycle, officers found an “airsoft pistol” near the bicycle and “placed it into evidence”, Simpson said.

“The district continues to conduct randomly selected school screenings of students and their possessions as a deterrent of students bringing contraband on campus”, OCPS said in a statement to News 6.

The school was locked down at 8:20 a.m.as a precaution.

The lockdown was quickly reduced to the closure of the closest hallway after about 10 minutes.
