According to Santoski, babies under the age of 6 months can’t get a flu shot because they are too weak to get them.

A new addition this year is that participating pharmacists will also be providing the vaccinations.

The seasonal flu vaccination is recommended for anyone age six months and older.

“By getting the quadrivalent influenza vaccine, Manitobans will have better odds of fighting circulating flu viruses”, said chief provincial health officer Dr. Michael Routledge. “The vaccine that has four different strains in it has two B strains in it, and children are more susceptible to Influenza B”. So we wanted to find out how well do flu shots work?

Children under 9 will need to be vaccinated at a public health clinic. “However the injection is also a very good way of protecting children against the flu”.

“All residents are encouraged to get the flu vaccine“, says Bernice Bova, public health nursing supervisor.

“On top of that, most health insurances cover the cost of the shot”, said Santoski, “but if they don’t, the shot still only costs $30 dollars”.
