Defense propels No. 8 Alabama to 27-14 win over Arkansas

After all, it’s A&M coach Kevin Sumlin’s offense that started to reveal the cracks in Alabama’s foundation three years ago.

Bama quarterback Jacob Coker turned in what might have been his most consistent performance of the season last week, completing 11-of-16 for 190 yards and a touchdown.

The Vols and Crimson Tide will play at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS or 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The game is also airing as a live stream online.

For the fifth time this season, Arkansas limited its opponent to their lowest scoring output of the season. The Crimson Tide defense is allowing 15.7 points and 264.5 yards per game with eight interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and 16 sacks. Alabama was back on top and on its way to another victory.

In the second quarter, Reggie Ragland hit the turf holding his shoulder, causing Tide fans everywhere to collectively hold their breath.

The Alabama offense was finally able to connect on a big play late in the third quarter. General athletic news can also be found at UA_Athletics onTwitter and Instagram and AlabamaAthletics on Facebook. I’m very pleased with the way our players battled in the game – really competed hard. “We’ve got to come out here and do that each and every week”.

Arkansas went into the half leading by four. I understand they’re always “genius if you make it, idiot if you don’t” ideas.

“A big play in the game was stopping their little fake punt thing, which we knew they had”, Saban said.

Usually it’s all about Alabama’s running game, but it’s not a coincidence that the Crimson Tide played their best game, following the lead of Jacob Coker.

RUN DEFENSES: Both running games face stiff tests.

Coaches name players of the weekA’Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed were named defensive players of the week by the UA coaching staff, along with Ragland.

“We don’t really have any injury updates or anybody that is injured to where it is a problem. There’s a lot of emotion in the game but in the end, it came down to who executed the best”.

Former Texas A&M wide receiver Thomas Johnson was arrested forallegedly stabbing a jogger to death on Monday. Kevin Sumlin has done a very, very good job there – his record certainly indicates that. The Tide has been facing massive chalk so far this season with an average closing line of -18.5.

So many yards and so many potential touchdowns for them to use to demonstrate who’s boss… Stewart meantime tops team receiving. They’re still one of the most prolific passing teams in the country.

“I was just playing and then at the end of the game everybody said I played good”, Ragland said.

Beyond that, it made the score less indicative of the show. Offenses will have bad days and tend to be somewhat inconsistent in nature; truly elite defenses do not, and that appears to be what we have here.
