Cattle Smuggler beaten to death in Himachal, 4 Others Arrested

The police, with the help of villagers, arrested all the five cow smugglers, after chasing them for about four hours.

Less than a month after Mohammed Akhlaq was murdered in Dadri, a 20-year-old Muslim man was lynched by a group of men in Himachal Pradesh on Friday for transporting a truck loaded with 15 cattle, including cows and bulls.

A man from Uttar Pradesh has been reportedly lynched by a suspected Bajrang Dal activists at a village near Shimla because they suspected he was smuggling cattle, according to his relatives.

The 28-year-old victim, named Noman, was found by Himachal Pradesh Police on Wednesday morning inside a truck at Sarahan village and rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, added the report. They were successful in offloading the cows at Lawasa Chowki area, but sources said one cow died and four others were injured when the smugglers pushed them off the vehicle.

Imran Asgar, his relative, who was traveling with him, said he was severely beaten up by Bajrang Dal activists after they stopped the truck carrying cattle.

All the accused have been booked under different sections of Cruelty against Animals Act.

Police responded to the incident and discovered the men hiding in a nearby forest after the mobs had attacked them. Haryana, ruled by a new BJP government, is working to put a complete beef ban in place – even on canned beef, under a new “Gau Sanrakshan Avam Gau Samwardhan (Cow Protection and Cow Conservation and Development) Bill” for cow slaughter.
