Pelicans Waive Corey Webster

From the first moments we witnessed him on the floor with the Pelicans in training camp, he was consistently running the team as a point guard.

“I’ve got the opportunity now”, McCalebb said Thursday. He played in various European leagues since 2009 for various Euro squads, including Partizan Belgrade in Serbia, Montepaschi Siena in Italy, Fenerbahçe Ulker in Turke and Bayern Munich in Germany. He won the Euroleague scoring title in 2012 and made Second Team All-Euroleague in 2010 and 2012.

Clarke says that subject to all the necessary clearances coming through in time, Webster will likely suit up for the club in their next home game on Wednesday night at the North Shore Events Centre against the Sydney Kings. “He played overseas for many years, and I know him. Now I’ve got a chance to play with them, so I’m very thankful”. A three-time first-team All-Sun Belt selection in 2005, 2007 and 2008, he’s the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,679 career points.

As the New Orleans Pelicans prepared for the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season this month in Metairie, 30-year-old guard Bo McCalebb worked out regularly in a gym only a few miles away, on the campus of the University of New Orleans, where he’d been a standout college player.

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has waived guard Corey Webster.

Those signings pushed the Pelicans over the 20 roster spots they were allowed to have in preseason, meaning Webster was the unfortunate player to be cut from the roster.

The Pelicans looked at tape of McCalebb in Europe and saw he’s capable of pushing the ball, a key in coach Alvin Gentry’s up-tempo system.

The New Orleans Pelicans have been hit hard by injuries so far this preseason, so they have been making a lot of roster moves recently to try and prepare for possible absences when the regular season starts.
