Mancini believes Chelsea can still make Champions League

But it has always been the centre of debate amongst their fans as to how reflective it actually is of the club’s long history and links to Manchester.

“We know we are not going to be in a position to compete [financially] with them but we’ve never been in a position where we can compete, even in the Championship with a few teams”.

Manchester City have announced that they will be entering a consultation process to gauge the view of their fans on the club’s crest.

A wide-ranging consultation will include a formal questionnaire to be filled out by “Cityzen members” at Saturday’s home game with Bournemouth, as well as a consultation office in City Square, next to the stadium.

Manchester City will canvas the opinion of supporters on whether they want to change the club’s badge, which they have used since 1997.

Said chief executive Ferran Soriano: “The badge is the most visual representation of Manchester City and is so central to our heritage”.

“The views of our Cityzens are essential to the process; they will have a real say on the future of our badge”. They’re more than welcome to do as they see is right for their football club but we are in a different market.

“I am looking forward to being part of the consultation process”. After all, if your fans are going to be the ones buying the gear with your new logo on it, then you better make sure that the fans like it. Hopefully we don’t have another Everton situation on our hands.
