Taylor Swift leads American Music Award nominations
Singers Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd both trail Swift for a shot at their first AMAs, taking second in the overall running with five nominations each. In addition, Swift is up for Song of the Year for “Blank Space” and for working with Kendrick Lamar on “Bad Blood” for the Collaboration of the Year award.

The 25-year-old Canadian is nominated in categories including New Artist of the Year, where competitors include the rap sensation Fetty Wap and Tove Lo, a Swedish singer who has recently broken into the United States market. The most winning female artist of all time is Whitney Houston who had 21 American Music Awards.
The blonde 1989 hit maker was mentioned for six awards, including Song Of The Year as well as Artist Of The Year. Michael Jackson’s 24 awards are the most of any artist. Winners are determined by fan votes on the show’s website or through Facebook and Twitter.
Besides “Blank Space”, song of the year nominees are “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth; “Uptown Funk!” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars; “Thinking out Loud” by Sheeran; and “Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weeknd. For the coveted category, Minaj is up against Luke Bryan, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor and The Weekend.
Fans have the opportunity to vote for their favorite artists in all 23 categories not only online at AMAvote.com, but also via social media by tagging their favorite artists in status updates and tweets and the hashtag #AMAs.

The three nominees for Favourite Female Artist in the Soul and R&B category were Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna. Jennifer Lopez – whose Las Vegas show launches in January – is set to host the show, which will air live from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theatre on Sunday, November 22.
