Patriots, Lewis agree to 2-year extension
“I’m not scared to get hit”, Lewis said. “A long time … when was that?”

So, of course he caught on with the Patriots, signed a two-year extension last week and has taken on an active role in the offense as a complementary back to LeGarrette Blount. In just three games he’s amassed 325 yards.
What about you, Matt Hasselbeck?
On an NFL Sunday when Cleveland beat Baltimore, Washington took Atlanta to overtime and Chicago (!) won its second in a row, there was at least one game that more or less went the way everyone expected: Patriots 30, Cowboys 6.
It was a play that only Lewis, all 5-foot-8 of him, could make. Coach gave me a chance. “Still have a lot of work to do”, Lewis said after signing the extension deal with the Pats.
Lewis is racking up yardage again on Sunday, as he’s got four carries for 29 yards and five catches for another 47 not even midway through the third quarter. Lewis has rushed for 146 yards with two touchdowns while also picking up 179 yards on 15 receptions. The following week against Buffalo, who has one of the better defenses in the league, Lewis totaled 138 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.
“He’s done a great job for us and has made a huge impact on our team”, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said.
After a collegiate career in which he broke Pitt rushing records set by Tony Dorsett, LeSean McCoy and Ironhead Heyward, the 5-7, 195-pound Lewis was a fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2011, while Ryan Grigson was the director of player personnel. Previous year came his brief audition with the Colts before Lewis joined the Patriots and the rest may not quite be history, but it certainly has been memorable.
One of the biggest surprises from the New England Patriots hot start this season has been running back Dion Lewis.

The Patriots are now on a mission to defend and remain as Super Bowl champions despite all the controversies that rocked the team during the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game last season until the offseason.
