The Blue Jays and Royals square off in Game 1 of the AL Championship Series at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Aroused with confidence and extra energy, he said, from the crowd at Kauffman Stadium chanting his name, Volquez reversed his personal postseason fortunes, seducing and dominating the highest-scoring team in Major League Baseball over six innings in a 5-0 Royals victory. He finished the night 1-for-3 and is hitting a terrific.313/.450/.875 with three homers and five RBI in the postseason.

With the Royals ahead in the fourth, fans faced the prospect the Jays might not win their first game. While he’s a warrior and likely to play through the pain, it’s something to monitor as the series progresses. The Blue Jays won two World Series in the early 1990s, but those are the last WS wins for either of these teams.

Marco Estrada will open the series for the Jays, to be followed in the rotation by David Price, Marcus Stroman and R.A. Dickey.

“I think we can sweep them”, he says.

On top of that…..sometimes we go two, occasionally three innings without a home run. They can cause a lot of trouble for pitcher, whenever they have runners on base. After throwing 50 pitches in relief of Dickey, he claims to be fine with it.

Edinson Volquez gave the Kansas City Royals exactly what they wanted.

Heitman likes Kansas City’s odds against Toronto. “He shut down a good-hitting team”.

“It was hard for me to get the ball down today”, he said.

“I’m looking forward to hearing from you, mayor, we want to hear what you guys are going to put up”. When the time came for Volquez to execute in Game 1 of the ALCS, he flipped the original plan on its head at the suggestion of catcher Salvador Perez. Things evened up in the second when Volquez needed just six pitches for a 1-2-3 inning.

Toronto’s reward for getting Volquez out of the game?

Toronto managed just a Bautista walk in the first inning but made Volquez throw 24 pitches. “I’ve been in that situation before, so I don’t have to – I know how I’ve got to get out of that inning”. “Winning the World Series is the only thing that could be better”. And after the game, he called Blue Jays star Josh Donaldson “a little baby” for complaining about his inside pitching.
