Democracy worldwide has been accredited by Egypt’s High Election Commission to observe the polls but the USA based group said in a statement that “some visas for accredited core team members and short-term observers have not been issued and most visas have not been issued for the duration necessary to observe the entire election process”.

The voting is to be held over two consecutive days at Egypt’s diplomatic missions in 139 countries around the world, the news agency reported.

Egyptians at home will be able to vote in 14 governorates Sunday and Monday. The 2nd stage of the staggered vote will happen on November 22-23.

The country has been without a parliament since the previous legislature, elected in late 2011, was dissolved in June 2012 after a court ruled electoral laws in place to be unconstitutional. But critics say the next parliament is likely to be a rubber-stamp body that further solidifies the power of President Sisi, a former general who led Morsi’s overthrow.
