Cameron Crowe’s ‘Roadies’ ordered to series at Showtime
There had been a few recent concern that Cameron Crowe’s spate of poor luck (with bad reactions and box office figures to Aloha) was continuing on his planned series for Showtime, Roadies, as rumours drifted that it might not make it to air. Crowe is writing, directing, and executive producing the “music-infused” series which will star Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino, Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Peter Cambor, Colson Baker, and Ron White.

Emmy winners J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk (“Lost”, “Fringe, ” “Person of Interest”) are exec producers on the show. The ensemble cast also includes Luis Guzman (“Boogie Nights”), Jacqueline Byers (“The Strain”), Finesse Mitchell (“Saturday Night Live”), Branscombe Richmond (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) and Tanc Sade (“Gilmore Girls”).
“I’ve long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast”, said Crowe in a statement.
Cameron Crowe’s next project will delve into the life of rock music’s unsung heroes: the roadies working behind the scenes.
Not content to let HBO have all the music-inspired fun, Showtime has ordered “Roadies” to series with a 10-episode pickup. “Showtime has a great track record with music-based projects, and they’ve been wonderful partners. We can’t wait to bring it all to life in 2016”. It will follow the roadies and crew for the fictitious Staton-House Band as they tour the United States. Kelly Curtis, longtime manager for Pearl Jam, is on board as a producer and music supervisor.

Wilson will play the band’s tour manager and Gugino will play the production manager. Crowe will be looking to rebound on TV, following a long line of respected writers and directors who turned to the small screen to better showcase their personal dramas.
