The big rig then started on fire and was fully engulfed in flames.

VALLEJO (KRON) – A big-rig has caught on fire on westbound Highway 37 in Vallejo Friday morning causing lanes in both directions to shut down.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 37 were reopened at 8:40 a.m., two hours after a big rig carrying hay crashed with several other vehicles, according to the CHP incident log.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of I-680 are at a standstill.

Crews are working to clear the remaining debris and 100 gallons of diesel fuel. As of 7:10 a.m., south I-680 traffic is being diverted to westbound State Route 24.

“We’re counting our blessings this morning”, Fransen said regarding the minimal injuries resulting from the collision.

Meanwhile, the big rig exploded and caught fire, as did the grass on the side of the freeway, Fransen said. No one was injured in the collision involving five vehicles, he said.
