Price admits significant tensions persist within the House Republican Conference, but he said a bitter fight for the speaker’s chair is a prescription for disaster. Another Republican was later stripped of his subcommittee gavel after he voted against a procedural motion on trade bills. To do that, they need to decide whether they want to be disrupters or leaders – an oppositional minority within the GOP, or the catalyst for a new majority movement that changes the United States for the better. The dynamic has left many Republicans floating their names as possible contenders for speaker, with the important caveat that they run only if Ryan doesn’t. So is Daniel Webster. So pick the most conservative candidate who can win the support of both conservatives and rank-and-file Republicans and reach an understanding with the next speaker on a bold but realistic conservative agenda.
Because of that achievement, and others, he acknowledged being asked by several House members to consider taking the role being vacated by Boehner at the end of the month or whenever a replacement is chosen.

When he announced his resignation, Boehner said he was ready to clean up a few outstanding issues for his successor – which Washington took as a signal on the debt limit.
