Reto Berra’s shutout sends Colorado past slumping Ducks 3-0
Colorado Avalanche v Anaheim Ducks ANAHEIM, CA – OCTOBER 16: Reto Berra #20 of the Colorado Avalanche, Nick Holden #2 of the Colorado Avalanche, and Jiri Sekac #46 of the Anaheim Ducks battle for position during the third period of a game at Honda Center on October 16, 2015 in Anaheim, California. “I didn’t care about the score”. Berra carried with him career numbers – 2.91 goals-against average, .901 save percentage – that wouldn’t make him a No. 1 option on any team. He relieved starter Semyon Varlamov late in the second period of Colorado’s 6-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night in Denver and stopped all five shots he faced. Their scoreless streak now sits at 163 minutes, 4 seconds.

Defenseman Sami Vatanen scored it in a 2-1 shootout loss to Vancouver. Peter McNab of the Altitude broadcasting team perfectly vocalized Anaheim’s problems, as he pondered aloud in the waning minutes of the second period, “How many times has a pass off a Ducks stick went right to an Avalanche player?!”
Due to the abysmal performance of the Anaheim Ducks at the start of the season, many have questioned the drive of the squad. “Once that happens, it should be a snowball effect”.
The Avalanche took a 1-0 lead with their first shot 53 seconds into the game. The Ducks put 35 shots on goal. When speaking to the media, Patrick Maroon stated, “It makes a big difference when guys are having fun and smiling on the ice, and enjoying the morning skate”.
“It’s something we really haven’t gone through, at least since I’ve been here”, winger Corey Perry said. Skille scored his first goal of the season by powering a slap shot between Andersen’s legs from the left-wing boards near the face-off circle. Colorado’s goals came from Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Skille and John Mitchell. Avalanche RW Jarome Iginla needs one point to tie Hall of Famer Norm Ullman for 39th place all-time with 1,229 points…. Anaheim scratched D Clayton Stoner, C Shawn Horcoff and C Mike Santorelli….
Facing the offensively impotent Ducks proved highly beneficial in his case. The bright-orange sweater features the franchise’s original goalie-mask-with-a-duck-bill Mighty Ducks crest, with the current crest on the shoulders and the current jerseys’ letters and numerals.
