Cross Country Returns to Louisville for Pre-Nationals

The intensity takes a step up for the Central Michigan cross country teams Saturday when they run in the NCAA Pre National Meet at Louisville.

“When we go to a high caliber meet like the Pre-Nationals, we really appreciate the opportunity to showcase our talent”, USU head coach Gregg Gensel said.

The meet consists of six races – two seeded races to start the meet, followed by two unseeded races and two open races.

The meet is a preview of the upcoming NCAA Cross Country National Championship held in Louisville on November. 21.

The invitational featured more than 40 teams broken down into men’s and women’s divisions. Three of the 11 teams are ranked in the top 10 of the latest poll, including top-ranked Colorado along with third-ranked Oregon and 10-ranked Georgetown. The Aggie men finished fifth with 152 points at last year’s Championships, while the women captured seventh with 180 points.

Seeded Red Races and Unseeded Black Races, as well as Open Divisional Races were held for the men’s and women’s divisions.

The men were led by Jordan Cook.

Several of the nation’s top teams will be competing alongside the Buffs this weekend. “It’s a great course and always features high-level competition, which will help us greatly as we prepare for the conference championships in a couple of weeks”. She finished second at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational and 21 at the Princeton Inter-Regional Invitational.

The men’s team will run the 8,000-meter course at Tom Sawyer Park at 9:45 a.m. CT, followed by the Lady Toppers at 10:30 a.m. CT in their 6K race.
