Prime Minister Modi breaks silence on Dadri lynching episode

But Hindus must decide whether they want to fight Muslims or poverty. It won’t be surprising if he gives it a skip, given his track record of being silent when Hindu mobs go on rampage.

A coalition of pro-India Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP runs local government in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The forensic tests later revealed that he was eating lamb.

“India is the second largest exporter of beef in the world”. It is not a must for Muslims to kill cows, bulls or bullocks and eat beef.

Congress chief Rashid Alvi, who was reacting to Prime Minister Modi’s comment apparently referring to the Dadri case throughout an election rally in Nawada, Bihar, yesterday, stated merely breaking silence on the untoward incident is not sufficient. Today of the country’s 29 states, 24 have declared the slaughter and consumption of beef to be illegal. Even now if we can really become fearless and love the Muslims, the Muslims will have to stop and think what they could gain by practising treachery against us.

“Gandhiji would have gone on a fast unto death had he witnessed the incident at Dadri”. Numerous victims were Muslims and Christians.

He criticized Modi for not speaking more strongly against the recent mob attack, and for his silence about comments like Som’s. All that Modi could say was Hindus and Muslims should fight poverty rather than each other and that people should ignore controversial statements made by politicians. “The Muslims will be served beef and the Hindus an exclusively vegetarian meal”, Malik told had said. “The country has to stay united”, the prime minister said, according to Press Trust of India.

What has been most unnerving is what has been said – and not said – about the killing at the highest echelons of Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Mr Modi came to power on a strong mandate of development – not for one community but for all.

That’s more than a little ironic, if only because Modi himself has been accused of leaning heavily on beef politics in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Within weeks the new beef campaign was launched and it peaked with the lynching. Although appeals to the BJP’s Hindu base are often used to rally voters, the Prime Minister’s opponents have seized on religious issues to justify blocking his reform agenda in parliament. “I am sort of numb to everything else”, the young officer said. This casts eating meat not as a dietary choice but a lower form of being and a source of contamination that needs to be expunged, even if it requires violence. Take for instance the 2002 riots.

“I was born in Gujarat”. And Girish Shahane asks whatever created the impression that the prime minister was a moderate? His daughter was turning four and he invited our whole building to celebrate. “Must they subordinate themselves to what Hindu nationalists proclaim to be majority Hindu sentiment as the condition for being accepted as Indian?”

And followed this in Washington at the White House annual prayer meeting where he said, “Michelle and I returned from India – an incredible, attractive country, full of magnificent diversity – but a place where, in past years, religious faiths of all types have, on occasion, been targeted by other peoples of faith, simply due to their heritage and their beliefs – acts of intolerance that would have shocked Gandhiji, the person who helped to liberate that nation”.
