Aussies get behind petition to change currency to dollarydoos

“Due to global commodity prices plummeting, the Australian economy is struggling”, reads the petition by one Thomas Probst, addressed to Shadow Minister for Communications & Broadband Malcolm Turnbull (a former title of Australia’s current Prime Minister) and three other lawmakers.

For those unfamiliar with The Simpsons reference, shame on you.

It’s nearly hard to believe that this petition is based on a cartoon reference that first aired two decades ago, but alas, that is the magic of The Simpsons.

‘If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible’.

The term “dollarydoos” was used in The Simpsons, the world’s largest running sitcom back in 1995 in the sixth series episode Bart vs Australia where Bart makes a collect call to a young Australian boy named Tobias to ask which way the water spins as it drains out of their sink.

Because we all would truly live for the day that Federal Members discuss this glorious piece of grassroots campaigning in the House of Representatives, someone-one of you, any of you, all of you-has no choice but to print this thing out, go door-knocking, and make Australia’s most progressive economic policy happen.

The petition has more than 15,000 signatures, and that number is growing by the minute.

Later, the boy’s father is billed $900 AUS, which are referred to as “dollarydoos”, and Bart is indicted on fraud charges in Australia.

As expected, the petition has hit a chord with the Australian people.
