Texas high school football player dies after collapsing during game

Cam’ron Matthews, a junior at Alto High School in Texas, has died after being injured during a high school football game Friday night.

With less than a minute to go in the first half, Matthews, a junior, suffered from a seizure. He was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, and listed in critical condition through the day until he died around 6 p.m., school officials said.

The game the Yellowjackets were playing against Carlisle has been postponed. Matthews’ cause of death is not known.

Alto High held a vigil for Matthews Saturday at the school’s football field.

“Cam’ron Matthews, passed away Saturday, October 17th”. “When you have your own kids and you want them to emulate someone and follow in their footsteps, Cam’ron was a flawless example of that”, mourner Kerri Birdwell told KLTV. “It’d unbelievable how everybody steps up and I’m very proud to be part of the community”, said Birdwell.
