Tulane offense left looking for answers after 42-7 defeat to Houston

Offensively, the match matches up the Tulane Green Wave No. 123 ranked offense at 18.3 points scored per game against a Houston Cougars defense that ranks No. 57 at 23.0 points allowed per game. Tulane Green Wave rank at 52 for 269.0 road passing yards where as Houston Cougars rank at 106 for allowing 325.0 passing yards at home.

Tulane finished with more penalties (12) than first downs (11) and also punted 11 times.

It seems as if all of the Green Wave’s losses follow the same script and Friday was no different. “Their front four, they are the best front four that we will play all year, which coincides nicely with our lack of offensive line depth”.

The Green Wave’s offense was nowhere to be seen. On the other hand, with 1 Wins and 2 losses, Tulane Green Wave gained 314.4 total yards on an average including 211.2 passing yards (with 40.3 passing attempts having completion percentage of 51.1) and 103.2 rushing yards per game.

“It just the worst start we could possibly have”, Tulane coach Curtis Johnson said. Right now, the Green Wave lack it.

In between those Cougars’ scores, Tulane’s Dontrell Hilliard plowed for a 3-yard touchdown run at the end of a 12-play, 75-yard drive that included a 43-yard run on 4th-and-11 by senior running back Rob Kelley on a fake punt.

Ranked No. 24 Houston (5-0) looks to remain unbeaten and to remain inside the top 25 rankings while Tulane (2-3) would love nothing more than to knock them off.

Ward showed why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the American Athletic Conference on Friday.

The Wave’s aggressive four-man defensive line, which has helped the Green Wave record 39 tackles for losses, faces off against Houston dual-threat QB, Greg Ward Jr. – who is the only player nationally to average over 200 yards passing per game (260.4) and over 100 yards rushing per game (110.8).
