The flight departed from Philadelphia at 10:36 a.m. Friday, making scheduled stops in Charlotte, North Carolina; Phoenix and San Francisco.

The Airbus A321 left with 187 people on board and had a champagne toast at cruising altitude “to celebrate and honor the legacy of U.S. Airways”, American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein said.

If you want to book a flight you’ll also need to head to the American Airlines counter to check your bags and get your boarding pass.

Logan operator Massport said it has been working with American to ensure a smooth transition and doesn’t expect problems.

Together, the two airlines will be slightly larger in passenger traffic than United Airlines and Delta Air Lines. American Shuttle, formerly US Airways Shuttle, will remain in the same Terminal B location, at gates 15-19.

John and Jacqui Katchur, a couple who met on a US Airways flight, were one of the passengers onboard.

All future flights will fly under the American Airlines banner.
