Chicago Cubs are favorites to win the World Series

If you believe that’s true it makes Chicago’s win more impressive than it already is, but the feat itself will still be overshadowed by the fact that it’s Chicago’s first series win at home – ever.

Chicago: For only the second time since 1908, the Chicago Cubs have won a Major League Baseball playoff series and long-suffering fans hope their championship drought will end after 106 seasons.

But with a raucous, towel-waving crowd jamming the Friendly Confines, the North Siders gave generations of fans exactly what they wanted. But pitcher Hector Rondon struck out Piscotty.

“I’ve never seen anything like 21- and 22-, 23-year-olds dropping bombs like they are right now”, Epstein said. “We came up just a little short”.

Up-and-comers all season under their first-year manager, Maddon’s bunch of wild-card Cubs had arrived.

“We beat the Cardinals”, a champagne-soaked Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein told reporters matter-of-factly on the field after the Cubs did, in fact, beat their hated rivals 6-4 in Game 4 of the NLDS at Wrigley Field. Chicago dropped those final two at home. Arrieta, who went 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA during the regular season, pitched 5 2/3 innings of four-run ball Monday but got the win as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 8-6 in Game 3. You just can’t say which team will benefit from which break, or which hitter will get hot at the right time.

The banged-up Cardinals had reached the NLCS in the past four years. Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler threw home to catch Cruz at the plate to prevent him from scoring the go-ahead run.

“The winning was supposed to come next year, however this team said ‘THIS YEAR, ‘” said John Neubauer, a Cubs fan living in the Phoenix area. “I tip my cap to them”. That means that Cubs fans might be better off buying a plane ticket to either New York or Los Angeles to watch a game there rather than buying a ticket for a game at Wrigley.

The series shifts back to Los Angeles on Thursday night, with fellow Dodgers ace Zack Greinke scheduled to start against Jacob deGrom. Today’s winners will meet in Game One of the American League Championship Series on Friday. I can’t go to spring training and say anything else.

But, the Cubs battled back to take a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to Hammel’s RBI single and Javier Baez’s three-run homer. It was his third homer in five postseason games.

Grienke has allowed the fifth-fewest home runs per nine innings, which could cool off the Cubs’ hot bats when they need them the most. Current prices on StubHub are slightly lower starting at $2,381 for standing room only for Game One. “It’s been a long time coming for this city, and hopefully it’s just a sign of things to come”.
