Payday 2 adding microtransactions after developer said it wouldn’t

Then, in an interview with GameSpot in June 2013, lead designer David Goldfarb responded to a question regarding whether the game would feature microtransactions, saying: “No. No. God, I hope not”.

PayDay 2 is the latest game to explore microtransactions.

The first update of Crimefest, titled “The Black Market”, introduces a Safe item into the game, which drops randomly after a completed heist.

Once upon a time, Overkill made quite the effort to ensure that microtransactions would never find their way into the game.

The interesting and most frustrating part is that these safes are opened with Drills that are now only available for $2.49 of your real-life money. Of course, the community isn’t happy about this at all and are cursing OverKill due to them backtracking on their words.

Payday 2 now has over 137,000 reviews on Steam with a very positive rating overall, but new reviews are being used to vent by players frustrated with Overkill going back on its word on microtransactions, as moderators are apparently deleting negative feedback on the Steam group, according to one review.

Inside the safes are random weapon skins that provide buff attributes, making the player better in a scrap.

Thus far the company have remained quiet regarding the update, though we should expect to hear more from them soon.
