Superintendent: Alto football player dies after collapsing during game

A Texas teenager who collapsed on the field Friday night is now the sixth high school football to die during a game since September. The witness did not know whether Matthews was on the field for the touchdown that preceded the kickoff.

The player reportedly told teammates he was dizzy during a huddle. “When you have your own kids and you want them to emulate someone and follow in their footsteps, Cam’ron was a flawless example of that”, mourner Kerri Birdwell told KLTV. “He was a great kid in the classroom, unbelievable athlete, but more importantly just a great, great kid”.

“I am very sorry to say that Cam’Ron Matthews has stopped his fight this evening”, Walters said online.

There have now been six high school football players that have died this year.

The heartbreaking news of Matthews’ death spread quickly online Saturday night, as the Alto community and others mourned the sudden loss of the young football player.
