The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital in serious condition. But, they said, the injury was minor and they suspect it was a small shark. “At that point they were pulling him out of the water and you could see what the shark did”.

In Saturday morning’s incident, the victim was swimming with another man about 50 to 100 yards off shore.

The man was injured at both legs while the other was lucky enough to escape without any injury.

The shark attack occurred at 7:20 p.m. behind the Honolulu Police Department’s Waikiki substation.

As a result, Mokulua, Kailua and Lanikai have been closed and swimming is prohibited in the area.

The man is in serious condition at a nearby trauma center, the TV station reported.

Local surfer Kyle Kaiser said heard “all this commotion, but I had no idea it had to do with the shark”.

According to necn affilate WJAR, Colin Cook was attacked last week off Oahu’s North Shore. Bowthorpe says the 10- to 12-foot tiger shark was persistent and he hit it a few times with his paddle as he helped pull Cook onto his back. So yeah, very rare.

“He kind of dragged me underwater”, he said.

A Rhode Island native is reflecting on a terrifying shark attack while he was surfing in Hawaii last week that left him hospitalized.

These two incidences marked the sixth and seventh shark attacks in the state this year. One attack, which occurred in April on Maui, was fatal.
