“I think it’s a huge confidence boost for the team, remarked Nilsson”.

Lauri Korpikoski scored on a breakaway at 1:46 of overtime as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 on Sunday. “I think guys were getting to the net for the most part, it’s not like we weren’t trying to score, it was just one of those nights where they weren’t going in”. The Canucks will certianly lament a few of the missed opportunities in this one, including Daniel Sedin airmailing a puck over the crossbar on a 2 on 0 break with his brother early in the third period while the game was still tied.

Matt Bartkowski scored in regulation and Miller finished with 22 saves as Vancouver fell to 0-1-2 at home.

Anders Nillson was solid in goal for the visiting Oil, making 33 saves in the win. “I tried to tap it in and it bounced over”, said Daniel Sedin.

I am not usually one to complain about the refereeing in a game but I took issue with the way that a few things were and weren’t called. “We played decent at first – first four games – but couldn’t get the wins”. He reunited the Kid Line of Bo Horvat, Sven Baertschi and Jake Virtanen, which had combined for 10 points in a pre-season game in Edmonton. Baertschi had the best chance, as he was stopped by Nillson on a second period breakaway, but did pick up an assist on Bartkowski’s goal.

It was Korpikoski’s second goal of the season, with Nail Yakupov scoring his second goal of the season early in the first period on a power-play to open the scoring.

The 6’2, 194 pounder put up a career-high 15 goals and and 25 points in the KHL last season (as a 20-year-old).

The Canucks host the Washington Capitals on Thursday. He does have one playoff goal scored while with the Boston Bruins… Henrik Sedin was 12-3, while Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was a miserable 1-7. A lot of people have not liked this but I have to say with the defense that the Oilers have, this is probably the best tactic at this time.

Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid is pictured during the warm-up prior to facing the Vancouver Canucks before their NHL hockey game in Vancouver, B.C., on Sunday October 18, 2015. “It has been pointed out to me, but it doesn’t really mean anything”, Miller said. McCann missed Saturday’s practice and coach Willie Desjardins said he was a little dinged up from Friday night’s game against St. Louis. Yannick Weber was Vancouver’s other scratch Sunday night…
