A fake Boston Uber driver will spend the next 10 to 12 years behind bars after raping and abducting a woman in December last year.

A former Uber driver was sentenced Friday on charges of aggravated rape, kidnapping, and assault and battery, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Done picked up the victim after she had hailed an Uber, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.

He then told her that he would need a cash payment, so he took her to an ATM.

“This was a tragic incident and we were grateful to be able to assist police and prosecutors in identifying the perpetrator”, said Jason Post, an Uber spokesman.

“While these apps are a modern convenience, they are not without their risks”, he said.

Ryan encouraged people to take precautions when using any ride-sharing service.

Done then drove to a secluded area where he locked the doors and climbed into the back where he attacked the victim.

Following Done’s arrest in December, authorities announced that DNA evidence linked him to five other sexual assault cases dating from 2006 to 2010.

Several legislative proposals now under review at the State House would regulate Uber and Lyft, and center on passenger safety.

If these proposals are approved, it will mean that the transportation network companies will have to prominently display official signs on their vehicles and conduct more comprehensive background checks on their drivers.
