Larry David gives the people what they want: A Bernie Sanders impression

Tracy Morgan made his triumphant return to Saturday Night Live on last night’s wonderful episode (more on that a little later), but before he came onstage, there was another surprise former SNL employee who blew the lid off Studio 8H.

Hands flailing in precise Sanders fashion, David gets on the CNN debate stage shouting back to an excited audience: “I know, hello, hello, hello, enough with the hellos let’s do this”, adding that he’s hungry, “but good”.

The debate also included Kate McKinnon as a cigarette-smoking Hillary Clinton, Kyle Mooney as a happy to be invited Lincoln Chafee, Taran Killam as a quiet Martin O’Malley, and Alec Baldwin as a macho war vet Jim Webb. “We’re doomed!” he quipped in the hilarious sketch. If there was ever a reason to vote for Bernie Sanders, this is the clincher. “Millions of people on the streets”. David exclaimed at one point.

Larry David, providing Bernie Sanders’ opening statement, started with, “I’m gonna dial it right up to a ten… we need a revolution!”

When given the opportunity to tap into his inner-Sanders a few more, the 68-year-old David launched into his best Seinfeldian version of the Senator, decrying, “What’s the deal with emails anyway?”. Larry David’s daughter might not be following in her dad’s footsteps when it comes to show biz (at least not yet) – but she’s definitely gathering a following on Instagram. And we gotta do something! He then proceeded with a charmingly neurotic screed about how the other candidates have Super PACs while he doesn’t even have a backpack.

Clinton said of Sanders: “I get it, he’s the song of the summer”. “I carry my stuff around loose in my arms!”

Yet is the link between “Trap Queen” (“in love with the money”) and Bernie Sanders (one pair of underwear!) a stretch?
