An worldwide Cricket Council (ICC) statement outlined what lies ahead for the 34-year-old.

This is the third time Samuels has been reported with a suspect action in his 60-Test career which has produced 41 wickets at an average of 59.63.

Samuels bowled 27 overs in Sri Lanka’s only innings and accounted for Dimuth Karunaratne – who scored a career-best 186 – with returns of 1 for 84. According to the ICC, a report handed over to the West Indies officials cited “concerns over the legality” of the cricketer’s bowling action.

“Samuels’ bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is”. Following an evaluation, he was permitted to bowl his off-break delivery, but had to stop his quicker ones which were found to exceed the limit of tolerance.
