The latest Waze for iOS update makes it even easier and faster for users to navigate, inform accidents and road issues and send out tips.

The new app requires fewer taps to start a drive, send locations and get directions, thus making it much cleaner.

A pretty big update is on its way for those who love Waze’s navigation app. Version 4.0 of Waze has been redesigned to give the UI “higher visibility and clarity” in an effort to make it easier to get to the options you want the most while still getting the most from the map view. Now the first major update since it was acquired by Google has been released, the new Waze will feature a more modern look of its traffic and navigation service. All of these can be achieved with just a single tap of a button.

Reports and alerts are now color-coded, which makes them easier to notice on the map, so police reports are blue, traffic jams are red, while road hazards are yellow.

There’s also a new ETA panel that shows when you’ll arrive, offers alternate routes, allows you to add stops or send your ETA to friends. Most people probably have their phones plugged in when driving around, so this is one change that may go unnoticed by many of Waze’s users. Get road alerts along your route and find the cheapest gas prices around you shared by the community. “Plus, you can add friends, send locations or keep others posted on your arrival time”. The last time the company rolled out a significant update was three years ago with improved guidance interface and the addition of text-to-speech capabilities.

A similar version for Android will be available in the near future, but iOS users can already download Waze 4.0 on their iPhones and iPads. Unfortunately, Waze is being a bit coy on the battery improvements, saying only that “version 4.0 significantly reduces battery consumption” without offering specifics, so your mileage may vary.
