Israeli army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner is reported to have said the “IDF holds Hamas responsible for any act of aggression from the Gaza Strip”. A 30-year-old pregnant woman and her daughter were killed when the Israel Air Force struck what it said was a Hamas arms-production site in the northern Gaza Strip in response to rocket fire.

On Sunday night in northern Israel, four Israelis were injured in a stabbing attack, including a 14-year-old girl. Both Palestinian assailants were killed.

There have been warnings of the risk of a full-scale Palestinian uprising, or third intifada.

The suspect was arrested, but large police forces are canvassing the area where the attack took place in search for a second suspect, who allegedly assisted the attacker, Israeli police spokesperson Luba Samri said, Xinhua reported.

Stabbing attacks have killed two Israelis and wounded around 20. Jewish and Muslim grassroots groups, self-declared defenders of their faiths, have played a key role in rising Israeli-Palestinian tensions, stepping up activities at a contested Jerusalem shrine at the heart of the current violence.

Against a backdrop of protests over Jewish access to Al Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem, Palestinians have been attacking Israelis with knives, rocks and, on at least one occasion, guns.

The violence came on top of more than 10 days of clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and annexed east Jerusalem, as well as a series of Palestinian stabbings of Jews.

It was the latest incident in a recent wave of Israeli violence against alleged Palestinian attackers.

A few Israeli Arabs have also actively supported the protests, mainly by demonstrating in major Israeli-Arab population centres, and a general commercial strike in the Arab sector has been called for Tuesday. The youths had no known links to armed groups and have seemingly targeted Israeli soldiers and civilians at random, complicating efforts to predict or prevent the attacks.

It called on the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action to stop the grave Israeli escalations and provide worldwide protection to the Palestinian people.

Earlier Sunday, an explosion seriously wounded a Palestinian woman and lightly injured an Israeli policeman at a West Bank checkpoint near Maale Adumim settlement.

The group blamed “Israel’s wanton and excessive use of force against Palestinians, with no accountability for the deaths they cause” for the high death toll.
