Slain woman’s parents focused on healing, not ‘sanctuary’

Witnesses on the packed pier snapped photos of the suspect at the scene, identifying the man for police and leading to the arrest of Francisco Sanchez, 45, just an hour later.

The bullet struck Steinle in the back and pierced her aorta, according to The Oakland Tribune. Her father attempted to administer CPR, with the help of bystanders, before help arrived.

The man arrested in connection with the seemingly random killing of a woman who was out for a stroll with her father along the San Francisco waterfront is an illegal immigrant who previously had been deported five times, federal immigration officials say.

However, city of San Francisco really doesn’t care about such requests and eventually, the sheriff’s department freed him. However, this request was not fulfilled by the sheriff’s department on the basis that it violated the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable search and seizure, and that there was no probable cause for further detainment after Lopez-Sanchez had already served his multiple-year federal prison sentence.

Video shows several people trying to help the young woman.

“Liz Sullivan that her 32-year-old daughter turned to her father after she was shot and said she didn’t feel well before collapsing”, stated Judson Berger of Fox News, one of only a few media outlets telling the facts of the case.

Steinle, a medical device salesperson, died at San Francisco General Hospital. “I don’t think I’ve totally grasped it”, Sullivan said.

Police would not confirm to ABC News that the suspect told them he was targeting sea lions. Steinle died during surgery in the San Francisco General Hospital, shortly after being shot. Horne said they checked and found none.

The sheriff’s office said, “When Mr. Lopez-Sanchez was booked into the jail, there was no active Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) warrant or judicial order of removal for him”.

Immigration officials accompanied the transfer with a detention order – meaning the agency was supposed to be notified when Sanchez was released, so he could be rearrested and once again deported.

The federal law enforcement source told CNN the sheriff’s department “didn’t even need to hold him”.

Police said Lopez-Sanchez last lived in Texas, where he was on probation. Four of his felonies were drug-related offenses involving narcotics, the remaining three felonies were due to illegal re-entry into the country. Since then, hundreds of cities and counties across the country have adopted “sanctuary” laws or policies, most recently in response to immigration raids that have torn thousands of families apart.

“An individual with a lengthy criminal history, who is now the suspect in a tragic murder case, was released onto the street rather than being turned over to ICE for deportation”, Kice said.
