Toyota Wants Only Electric Cars on the Roads by 2050

A concept which has been debated, arguably ad nauseam in the last few days, but saw the pair introduced to Toyota’s, and the world’s, first truly commercial hydrogen vehicle amidst a whirl of BTTF references and the science behind the technology. New owners representing each of the dealership locations in Southern and Northern California received ceremonial keys. The one-off Mirai features gull-wing doors, like the DeLorean DMC-12 time machine vehicle from the movie franchise, as well as a heads-up display for time travel destinations.

Constantly working on updates, it finally came out with a 100 percent zero emission, called the Toyota Mirai.

“The Company has also today signed its first fuel contract, with Toyota, covering the green hydrogen fuel dispensed from the three London HyFive refuelling stations, funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) and the two further refuelling stations funded by OLEV and the FCH JU”. But don’t go praising Toyota as an oracle just yet, because when pressed for details, the company’s plan suddenly begins to feel a little pie in the sky. It was made to promote Universal’s 30th-anniversary trilogy release on Blu-ray and DVD.

The UK joins Germany, Belgium and Denmark as Toyota’s initial attack market for the Mirai in Europe, and although numbers are going to be low for now – Toyota UK are expecting to deliver just 12 Mirais in the UK in 2015, including these two and four for Transport for London – it could be the catalyst for big growth in hydrogen-powered transport in the UK. Over the past 50 years, we’ve built more than 25 million cars and trucks in North America, where we operate 14 manufacturing plants and directly employ more than 40,000 people.

Toyota has launched the Environmental Challenge 2050: Six goals meant to improve sustainability, ultimately resulting in getting carbon dioxide-omitting vehicles off the road within 35 years.

Toyota partners with philanthropic organizations across the country, with a focus on education, safety and the environment.

Obviously this comes at a time when the stain from the Volkswagen emissions cheating scandal is beginning to spread and taint much of the overall auto market. For more information about Toyota, visit www.toyotanewsroom.com.
