Orioles’ Bats Quiet as Sox Blank Baltimore – WHSV TV

Through seven innings, today’s game was on the course for a sleepy 2-0 White Sox shutout.

“I pitched my way into being the guy that gets skipped”, said Danks. My job is when I get the ball is to go deep in the game and give us a chance to win. He is 0-1 against them in those starts with an 8.25 ERA, and lost to them in Baltimore in April, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits in just five innings.

Gonzalez has a 7.78 ERA while losing three of his last four starts on the road, where he will face the White Sox for the first time. “I was just overjoyed to see him catch that ball and come back with it. It was awesome”. It was no different tonight. I was able to do that tonight. Then a sensational leaping catch above the wall in right by Avisail Garcia that snatched a home run away from Chris Davis pulled closer David Robertson’s bacon out of the fire in the ninth.

Right-hander Zach Putnam, who allowed a game tying two-run homer to Baltimore third baseman Manny Machado in the eighth, got the win thanks to a pinch-hit double in the eighth by J.B. Each one kept Orioles center fielder Adam Jones off the bases and allowed Samardzija to breeze through the first six innings.

“Nothing is on the barrel off him for me”, said Jones. “When he doesn’t have his fastball command, you know something is just quite not right with him, but he’ll get after it in his bullpen session and try to get back on line and he’ll be ready to go his next start”. “I guess he just owns me”.

The Orioles threatened in the seventh with runners at second and third after two singles and a wild pitch. Ryan Flaherty singled with two outs in the sixth for the Orioles’ first hit. 2B Jonathan Schoop (right knee) rejoined the team Saturday and is expected be activated from the 60-day DL to start Sunday against the White Sox. Two runs in three games is a sad state of affairs in any situation, unless you’re talking about what your pitching staff has allowed.

The up-and-down play of Danks may be frustrating for the White Sox management (and a few fantasy baseball owners), but there is no doubt that when Danks is on his game, he can shut a team down.

Samardzija credits a lot of that success to Chris Sale, the American League’s pitcher of the month in June.

With a. 167 average after an 0-for-4 effort in the White Sox’ thrilling 3-2 victory against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon at US Cellular Field, Sanchez has much work to do to climb out of the dreaded “Mendoza” territory. Now, the lefty will start against ex- White Sox ace Mark Buehrle and the Blue Jays on Monday night as the White Sox give Sale an extra day of rest. While that number is far off the league lead of 23 (Colorado Rockies’ pitcher, Kyle Kendricks), it is still bad enough to be tied for 17th most in the Majors.

Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman (1-0, 3.09 ERA) will remain in the rotation and start Tuesday against Minnesota.
