Wimbledon Lookahead: Dustin Brown tries for encore

Despite his defeat, Brown remained upbeat after his Nadal victory.

“Whatever I do is to take him out of his comfort zone”, Brown said.

“It was like a 10-15 minute break”.

“I’m happy with my tournament”. “Obviously when you do take a break, it does stiffen up”. His back-length dreadlocks jumping around as he raced to the net, Brown serve-and-volleyed on 99 of 114 service points, winning 71 of those.

I think he’s going to answer better. “Literally my back cracked a lot”. As a 12-year-old boy growing up in Australia, he used to go bed at 7:30 p.m. and then get up at 1 a.m.to watch the tennis at Wimbledon.

Wozniacki’s match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. local time (1200 GMT; 8 a.m. EDT). Also, Monica Niculescu of Romania beat Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-5.

But it’s especially well-suited to grass, and expectations ahead of his third-round match are now soaring.

The 2013 champion will next play Ivo Karlovic of Croatia.

Karlovic said both touches came “in one motion so that is legal”. Not lately. He missed time last season with a right wrist injury, then needed appendix surgery, and has spoken about confidence issues. He added that he “was extremely lucky” to win the point. I need to accept these kind of things that can happen. I’m just having fun. I wanted to hit a dropshot.

Another day, another disappointing British loss at Wimbledon.

The 30-year-old world number 102’s next challenge comes on Saturday when he faces Viktor Troicki of Serbia.

But he was unable to follow up his famous triumph and fell 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-3 to the 29-year-old Serb.

Another year, another disastrous result for Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon. Brown, who’s made $40,000 so far this year, usually plays on the men’s second-tier Challenger circuit and can’t afford a coach. He’s the oldest player to reach the round of 16 at a major since Jimmy Connors did so at the 1991 US Open at the age of 39.

Roger Federer had no such trouble, despite losing a set.

Well, that wrapped up quickly. “Players are so comfortable being inside the court that they don’t want to move out”, on their receiving stance.

John Isner and USA Open champion Marin Cilic are back at it on Court 1.

Isner beat Nicolas Mahut 70-68 in the fifth set in that epic match five years ago.

“It was literally the greatest moment of my tennis life”, Craig O’Shannessy, lead statistician on the men’s and women’s tennis tours who advised Brown on tactics before the match, said in an interview at Wimbledon.

The German caused one of the biggest shocks of the tournament when downing two-time champion Rafael Nadal in the second round on Thursday.

Federer tamed the massive serving of ruggedly built Australian Sam Groth, who had the Centre Court crowd gasping with the power of his delivery.

“He hit a good kick serve”.

Away from the grandeur of Wimbledon’s prime arenas, Brown’s serve-volley game, which had the tennis purists purring when he beat Nadal, failed to cut through the canny Troicki’s defences.

In an early match, the curse of beating Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon struck again. In his most recent four appearances, though, Nadal has exited early against an unheralded, unaccomplished and, most importantly, unafraid opponent ranked 100th or worse.
