Mark Hamill Pitches Evil Luke Skywalker

Well, the official trailer for a little movie called “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is upon us, and one could say it has, in the parlance of our times, already broke the Internet.

Eventually, Hamill suggested to George Lucas that Luke would suffer from the pain of losing most of his family and turn evil. When Hamill brought up the idea of the Jedi Master as a villain the director’s face certainly lit up. A few people – whose first exposure to The Force Awakens was the half-time ESPN broadcast of the trailer – thought that Luke Skywalker was the one behind Kylo Ren’s mask because of the character’s devotion to Darth Vader and possession of the melted mask from Return of the Jedi.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mark Hamill returns to his beloved role as Jedi knight Luke Skywalker, son to fallen Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker and Queen Padme Amidala of Naboo. Even with several news about Mark Hamill joining the filming of the said movie, including a behind-the-scenes clip where he narrates bits and parts of it, fans still can not help but speculate: Is he dead?

“I just thought that’s the way it was going from when we finished [Empire Strikes Back]”, he tells a table full of people including a very interested-looking JJ Abrams.

Is it possible that Kylo Ren is a direct descendant of Luke Skywalker? Could Luke be heading to the dark side or are fans just reaching? “I’ll have to come back, but I’ll have Han Solo in my crosshairs and I’ll be about to kill him or about to kill the princess or about to kill someone we care about”.

“I should come back having trained somewhere with shaved widow’s peak, and a top knot, and like a braid”, Hamill added, but he said Lucas refused. “Like World War II movies and stuff”. We know that Mark Hamill is in the film, but no reference or image of the character has shown up in any of the trailers, teasers or promotional images. The trailer shows Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is idolizing Darth Vader.

The possibility of an evil Luke Skywalker that turns to the Dark Side after the death of his father is also a concept that popped up in the previous Expanded Universe material, like the Dark Empire series of Dark Horse comics.
