“We can’t get away by saying that statements were misinterpreted or twisted. We need to be extra careful while putting forth our views”.

New Delhi, CPI(M) today demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack V K Singh contending “repeated atrocious” statements by the Union Minister show he is “not fit” to be part of cabinet. “And I don’t think that at present we can do anything more than this”, he said while addressing the media here.

The BJP on Friday had to fire-fight at the top level, with Home Minister Rajnath Singh censuring Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh for his “dog” remark, in the context of an arson attack on a Dalit family in Haryana which has acquired political overtones in poll-bound Bihar.

Rajnath Singh said that one should also ensure that there is no possibility of a statement to be interpreted in the wrong sense. It is learnt that both Gen. Singh and Mr Rijiju were personally asked by the party leadership to be careful in future. He also rejected the allegation that a 15-year-old dalit boy in Sonipat had died in police custody, saying he had committed suicide. “This incident has nothing to with the Central government”. Singh reiterated that the party members should not forget that they are in power and people have high expectations from them.

“Don’t blame the Centre if a dog is stoned” Singh had said while briefing the reporters commenting over the incident reported in Sunped village of Faridabad where two Dalit toddlers were burnt to death in Faridabad.

The spokesperson added that Dalit the killing had was not a case of crime targeting the community but due to enmity between two families and claimed that local BSP MLA besides the state administration had said so as well. MoS for Home Rijiju too had drawn flak on Wednesday after he said that he agreed with a former Delhi L-G who had once remarked that North Indians “take pride in and enjoy” breaking rules. Mr Rijiju had later tried to clarify, saying he was “not pointing at any region, religion or other group”.
