He comes to the team from the Los Angeles Angels, where he was an assistant general manager.

Klentak was assisant GM for the Angels under Jerry Dipoto. Dipoto was let go this summer and recently replaced by New York Yankees executive Billy Eppler.
Klentak previously worked for MacPhail in Baltimore as the Orioles director of baseball operations from 2008-11. MacPhail later took over as president for Pat Gillick, who returned to his advisory role with the club.
Klentak also has a strong analytical background in baseball, another key phase of the Phillies rebuild as they look to move away from scout-based systems.
According to Nick Cafardo, and since verified by several others, the search for the next general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies is over. It is not known whether he will replace both Servais and Klentak or use the departures as an opportunity to restructure the front office. It’s possible changes could come after that when Klentak becomes more familiar with team personnel and the Phillies’ operation.
