Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks record for advance ticket sales

In the USA, American website Fandango said the film has sold more than eight times as many tickets on its first day of release as the previous record holder, 2012′s The Hunger Games.

Jurassic World star Chris Pratt was among those excited about the trailer’s release.

The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the franchise, is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, with flurries of excitement accompanying each trailer launch.

The latest trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was unveiled Monday night during halftime of ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

John Boyega, a fellow relative newcomer to Hollywood who will play Finn in The Force Awakens, reacted to a particular part of the trailer by jumping up and throwing himself over the back of his sofa.

The reaction was so rapturous (combined with a few frustration about ticket difficulties) that it was a very unique night to be a “Star Wars” fan, with many comparing it to the feelings they felt seeing the original trilogy.

But whatever happens we’ll know when Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 17.

“I’m still pretty hyped for it, but when Han Solo was like ‘Jedi are real, ‘ shouldn’t they have years of data that prove that Jedi existed?” The movie releases in mid-December 2015 in theaters not too far, far away… That footage has been viewed almost 12 million times on the official “Star Wars” YouTube channel. The high demand for early tickets overwhelmed Fandango and other ticket-selling websites, where a few frustrated customers were met with error messages and long wait times. The Fandango rep also had this to say about the record-shattering ticket sales.
