Jason Day to reclaim world number one spot

Spieth has played in San Diego each of the last three years, including 2014 when he held the 36-hole lead before fading to a T-17 finish.

“Playing in the SMBC Singapore Open is something I’m really looking forward to”, Spieth said in a statement.

He added that he knew the Singapore Open was among the main events in Asia and he said that he could not be more excited about it being a part of his playing schedule for 2016.

However, according to a report in The Strait Times, the Masters and U.S. Open victor does not come cheap, with the publication reporting that Spieth will be paid US$1.2 million to appear at the Sentosa Golf Club.

Day narrowly edges out Jordan Spieth, who is trailed by Rory McIlroy to make up golf’s big three.

The 22-year-old claimed this year’s Masters Tournament and US Open and recently triumphed in the Tour Championship to clinch the 2015 FedEx Cup.

Although his birdie putt from the Valley of Sin at St Andrews stopped short, Spieth’s Major ambitions were not over for the year.

Australia’s Day, who was No. 1 for a week last month before losing the mantle to Jordan Spieth, is at home in Ohio resting at the end of a long season with wife Ellie, who is soon due to deliver their second child. Nonetheless, they swapped places on Sunday in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Day regained the No. 1 spot in the ranking, a function of the rolling 104-week formula.

You would think given how Spieth won two majors this year, he’d be nearly impossible to top, Day boasts six wins – including a major title of his own.
