Ahmed is receiving a full-ride scholarship from the Qatar Foundation, The Washington Post reports, and he’ll be leaving next week. The family announced the move today, a few 24 hours after meeting with President Obama at a White House event.
“Qatar was a cool place to visit”, he said in a statement released to the Dallas Morning News Tuesday.
AP notes that Ahmed and his family did not say when they planned on making the move but Ahmed told AP that, “he was impressed with the program and thinks he’ll ‘learn a lot and have fun, too'”.
“I feel we really understand what each other’s been through and we have similar mindsets about it”, Wilmot said.
Over the past month, Ahmed visited Google headquarters, made an appearance on “Dr. Oz”, went to New York and hung with Mayor Bill de Blasio, jaunted to the United Nations where he rubbed shoulders with Turkey’s Islamist Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, flew overseas and hugged Sudanese genocidal war crimes theocratic dictator Omar Hassan al-Bashir, and enjoyed a Saudi government funded pilgrimage to Mecca. Ahmed Mohamed is the 14-year-old “clock kid”, freshman, who was arrested in Irving, Texas, for bringing an alarm clock science project to his high school teacher. his father Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed is at left, and Ron Price in the background second from right. The “stuff” Eyman referred to are the conspiracy theories surrounding Ahmed, saying that he made the clock as a publicity stunt.
His arrest came after he brought to school a homemade clock to show to his teacher.
According to his family, Ahmed will be enrolled in the Qatar Foundation’s “Young Innovators” program and his whole family will relocate with him to Qatar.
The family thanked all the people and organizations that expressed their support after the “unfortunate incident of Ahmed’s arrest”.

Though Ahmed received messages of support on Twitter from influential leaders such as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Hillary Clinton, NASA and Obama, there was also a backlash against the attention the teen received. Qatar is in the Arab world, but it also feels like Texas.
