Beavers edged by Buffaloes 17-13, fall to 0-4 in Pac-12

CU snapped a 14-game losing streak in Pac-12 conference games and a 13-game road losing streak in league games as well (last win was a 35-34 win at Washington State on September 22, 2012) … Seth Collins is by far the better runner, but he’s been inconsistent at best as a passer.

The Buffaloes have a diverse offense, led by QB Sefo Liufau (60.5 percentage completion rate, eight TDs, three INTs), RB Christian Powell (419 rushing yards, 123 receiving yards) and WRs Shay Fields (504 yards) and Nelson Spruce (503 yards). “We just have to utilize the guys differently”. The Buffs had to stop OSU twice in the late going and they were up to the challenge, the second stop coming when Chidobe Awuzie created the game’s only turnover with an interception to seal it with 24 seconds left after OSU had driven to the CU 40.

Andersen recognizes the Buffaloes have been in games and have a few explosiveness on offense.

“I guess if you look at it the way you’re saying, to look at it and everyone is saying, ‘You should win this game, this is a great chance for you, if you don’t win this game uh-oh.’ Which really is just talk, that’s all that is”, Colorado coach Mike Macintyre said this week, responding to a reporter’s question about the dynamic with both teams in similar situations.

“Colorado is a team that has played a bunch of teams very, very close and has a very physical nature amongst themselves on the offensive side of the ball”, Andersen said.

Like Collins, Mitchell is a dual-threat quarterback. The Pac-12 has proven itself very cleanly to be a league where you’ve got to be prepared to score points, and we are struggling mightily to score points… I think we were able to do that for the most part in the third and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough. Oregon State is slightly favored at Reser Stadium, but not by much. “So this week we’ve got to find a way to do it for a whole game”. He’s a good coach, MacIntyre is a good coach, they’re all good coaches. Oregon State Beavers recorded 149.8 passing yards and 188.5 rushing yards while allowed 153.0 passing yards and 178.0 russhing yards with turnover differential of -0.5.

“I’m very hungry”, senior defensive back Ken Crawley said. “He had that pass interference one or two plays before that, so it just shows how mature he is to not get down on himself and come back and win a the game for us”. The Beavers are nearly certain to be double-digit underdogs in their remaining games against Utah, UCLA, California, Washington and Oregon.

Andersen called Nall a “war daddy”, and he represents the type of player Andersen is looking for on the recruiting trail as he attempts to rebuild the youngest team in the Pac-12 into a contender.
