Two civilians were injured in overnight shelling by Pakistan Rangers in Samba district of Jammu region, police said on Sunday. The Border Security Force (BSF) retaliated by using same calibre weapons and the heavy exchanges broke weeks of lull.
“Pakistan began firing on our nine border outposts on Friday evening”, a senior official from India’s Border Security Force said.
On August 28, three civilians, including two women, were killed and 17 were injured as Pakistani troops pounded border areas of Jammu with heavy shelling and firing.
Ganga visited villages of Samba district which were hit by cross border firing and assessed damages due to mortar shelling in Mawa and Bainglarg villages in Samba district on Saturday.
“One of the injured has succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital”.
“Bobiya border outpost of the BSF was damaged in Pakistan shelling in Kathua district”, the official said. The villagers also lost a few of their cattle in the firing.
BSF said that Pakistani Rangers fired from Gopalpur post towards the Indian posts, where maintenance work was going on.
