Delhi: Sanitation workers call off strike following assurance from government
There are clear indications that the strike by the sanitation workers is being provoked by the BJP.

Meanwhile, Joint Front of MCD Unions General Secretary Santlal Chawariya welcomed calling off the strike. Due to financial crunch corporations are unable to meet their core/obligatory functions relating to handling removal of garbage.
The workers’ union representatives met with the AAP government which has promised to release funds to municipalities in December instead of March next year.
The central government controlled Delhi Development Corporation (DDA) owes Rs 1550 crore to the three MCDs, which is one of the major reasons apart from financial corruption in the MCDs for their grave financial crisis. “DDA owes North DMC Rs 590 crore, SDMC Rs 765 crore, EDMC Rs 200 crore”.
Urging the Lt Governor to look into the matter, the CM asked him to give suitable instructions to DDA to clear all outstanding dues to the MCDs at the earliest.
Municipal workers of the East Delhi civic body launched an indefinite strike on Friday demanding, among others, timely payment of salaries and regularisation of daily-wagers who had been working for over a decade. In June also they had gone on strike raising the same demands.
Ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today said that sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD) have called off their strike that continued for three days as Delhi government has released funds on time.
AAP claims the Delhi government has so far released 75% of the funds earmarked for the current financial year to the North Corporation, 69% to the South Corporation and 64% to East Corporation. President of Swatantra Majdoor Vikas Sanyukt Morcha, Sanjay Gehlot said that the Delhi government has agreed to their demands but added that the solution is only temporary.

Claiming that the Morcha represented 27 unions of MCD sanitation workers, Gehlot said the meeting was held after the strikers dumped garbage in front of the residence of Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal and burnt effigy of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
