Woodward had headed to the marina with an unidentified woman and went swimming, despite warnings about a 12-foot alligator in the bayou, marina owner Allen Burkart told the Houston Chronicle. According to him, Woodward and a female companion ignored the signs and jumped into the water. He also said that the gator hit him while he was swimming and took him under.

She saw Woodward face down in the water and the alligator had him, then the predator pulled him under. And then he’s out there for a couple of seconds and then he’s dragged back down.

Florida fatal alligator attacks are numerous, but this attack is believed to be the first of its kind in Texas.

Burkhart told the newspaper: ‘He went under one time, then he hollered at her to get out of the water.

Workers report they spotted a ten-foot gator in the waters of Adams Bayou this week, prompting them to post a warning sign reading “No Swimming Alligators”. He said the victim frequently swam in the bayou, but never had anything like that happen before.

According to witnesses, they had been seen at the marina bar earlier.

‘If the sun is down, stay out of the water’.
