Another protester, who identified himself only as Zeev, 67, blamed the lack of a peace process for the current violence.

“The only way to prevent further deterioration is through a two-state solution”, the group stated ahead of the demo, which was attended by about 6,000 people.

Daniel Dojon told AFP he came “because the situation is insane. Israeli politicians are becoming more and more extreme”.

The rally on Saturday night will cap a week of commemorative events in the country, including a state ceremony at Mount Herzl, and a special Knesset session.

His assassin, a Jewish religious right wing zealot named Yigal Amir, shot Rabin following months of brutal incitement against the Israeli prime minister after he signed Oslo accords with then leader of the Palestinians, Yasser Arafat.

“The path that was stopped in 1995 is very much the path that needs to be taken today”, Peace Now spokeswoman Anat Ben Nun told AFP.

Ten Israelis have been killed in attacks, and at least 54 Palestinian were killed in clashes or following attacks.

The recent spate of violence includes nearly daily attacks by Palestinians and violent clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian youth protesters.

On Oct. 30, a memorial service will be held at Rabin Square, where the assassination took place, followed by another ceremony on Oct. 31, to be attended by Rivlin and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
