The addition of Weatherford means he will play Sunday. He most recently played four seasons with the New York Giants before being released in early September. It’s also unknown how long Quigley is expected to be out and if Weatherford is just a one-game rental. He was due to make more than $2 million this season.
Quigley was suddenly added to the Jets’ injury report Saturday, when he was listed as questionable for the Patriots game with a shin injury. He has 64 rushing yards, a pass attempt, and has made 18 tackles when on the field. The 32-year-old Weatherford has averaged 44.5 yards per punt, with a 37.8 net average in his career that has included stops with New Orleans, Kansas City and Jacksonville.

The New York Jets plan to sign veteran punter Steve Weatherford, according to multiple reports. Opponents are returning his punts 23.7 yards on average, which is five yards worse than any other qualified punter. However, the Jets would have had to disclose Quigley’s injury if they knew about it before Saturday.
