Investigators are heading back to the scene of a house explosion in Taunton.

The house was completely destroyed by the fire.

A neighbor who lived two houses away from the woman told authorities that he first heard a huge explosion and then the screams of the woman asking for help.

“The house went up in flames in really in a matter of three minutes”, he said, “And within 40 minutes, the roof caved in”.

Saltalmacchia said he, along with his son and a friend, comforted the distraught woman, bringing her a pair of sandals to protect her feet and giving her water.

“She said she was upstairs in her bedroom when the closet door blew off”, Saltalmacchia said.

“I ran outside”, he said, “and flames were streaming out the window”.

Firefighters work on a Taunton house fire on Sunday.

One woman escaped from the home, and nobody was reported injured, according to State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan.

Officials are still investigating what caused the explosion, but gas crews spent hours at the home digging up the gas line. He said he helped her and called 9-1-1.
