Doctors warned her that their unborn child was putting Graves’ health at risk and they would have to consider emergency surgery to save him.
The couple announced on Facebook that they named their son Kaleb Arkell Graves.
In her Facebook post, the proud mom said her blood pressure was extremely high, leading to Kaleb’s early arrival.
Over and over he repeats, “You’re pregnant”, and breaks into uncontrollable sobs of joy when his wife tells him, “And it’s a boy”.
Dana Griffin-Graves and her husband Arkell have been trying to have kids for 17 years. Dana recorded Arkell’s reaction to learning he was going to be a father.
“There’s a few stuff in the oven too”, she told her husband in the video while he prepped dinner. Arkell then sees buns in the oven and realizes his wife is pregnant.
Almost 10 million people viewed the video on Dana’s YouTube page. Her blood pressure was through the roof.
Graves expects his wife to come home from the hospital on Monday, but baby Kaleb will have to be in the hospital for several months. “She didn’t have to do this, so my respect for her is, oh man, I don’t even think Webster has a word for it”.
“Kaleb came into the world yesterday at 1:08 pm and you know, just to let the world know, he’s very small but he’s strong”, Arkell Graves said in an exclusive interview with 8News reporter Kristin Smith. He is tiny in statue but he is a fighter.
Not only that, mum Dana is also said to be in critical condition.
Though the baby is in serious condition and having just 5% chance of surviving, the mother is expected to fully recover soon. I’m grateful to God, my wonderful husband Arkell and my incredible family. The couple whose inspirational video about their unexpected pregnancy went viral, is now asking for prayers for their son, Kaleb, who was delivered by C-Section Tuesday 16 weeks premature.Dana wrote: “When I arrived in the intensive care unit over a week ago, they told me in order to save my life, I had to terminate his”.
“We had everything planned”, she told Buzzfeed.
Previous social media posts suggest Dana was taken into hospital just days before as one post revealed “the last 48 hours have been trying”. To her confusion, everyone else started losing weight except for her.
